St Bartholomew's, Winstone

St Bartholomew's Church,
Winstone, Gloucestershire,
GL7 7JU.

This small church nestles on the side of a rolling landscape at one edge of the village.   There is some evidence that its origins are late Saxon, with the main structure being Norman, dating around 1070.   It has a most peaceful atmosphere, and is one of only five churches in the Cotswolds with no east window.   It has a good ring of six bells in the saddle-back roofed tower.

Winstone is the second highest village in the Cotswolds (by only 25 feet !), about a mile from the A417 “Ermin Street”.   It is a small village of about 96 houses, in the centre of the Benefice, with about 300 people of mixed demographic.

St Bartholomew’s have made a successful application for the “We’re Good to Go” certification, which gives prospective visitors confidence that we’re taking all necessary precautions to limit the spread of Covid-19.

Silent Session, Tuesdays 4pm

During the Winter our weekly 30 minute ‘Silent Sessions’ will start at 4.00pm.  DO come along if you can.  This is an opportunity to escape the noise and clutter of modern life.  (I will try and take the chill off the church and there are rugs to hand)

Winstone St Bartholomew’s Ringers

Winstone is fortunate to have a wonderful peel off six bells at St. Bartholomew’s, and we are always delighted to see new faces.  If you are a keen ringer elsewhere in the parish, a lapsed ringer ready to pick up the sallyagain or are just interested to find out more and learn with a relaxed and friendly group, please do contact David on 01285 821681 or mobile 07791 578060.  We practice every Second and Fourth Thursday of the month at 7.30pm, meeting at the church, and welcome opportunities to ring for special occasion.
